Day 49 - A Wet Run to the Italian Border
Wednesday 13th August 2014
Come rain or shine we are leaving the familiar embrace of Gasthof Hochalmspitze today and heading west across Austria towards Sud Tirol, the Dolomites and eventually the high Swiss Alps.
Come rain then it will have to be as the morning arrives gloomy and still raining. There are two more days of this until the weather system clears off north and east and the promise of summer returns.
We ride west along the B100 then turn up the B108. The rain turns heavy as we take the small road up the valley towards Staller Sattel. We have had enough when we reach the small village of Sankt Jakob in Deferregen.
The nice lady in the Tourist Information office makes a quick phone call on our behalf and in no time at all we are checked in to the Pension Enzian, a lovely house where we are welcomed with tea and cake, very much in the Austrian style.
Hopefully tomorrow will see an improvement in this awful weather.
